The webinar will discuss procedures to design, detail, and install post-installed deformed reinforcing bars/dowels as they apply to highway bridges. Engineers can use post-installed reinforcing bars/dowels for retrofitting, seismic strengthening, and widening bridge decks and piers. Unducted Epoxy Coated Strand in Practice: The Laurel Fork Bridge

This webinar will use the previously constructed Laurel Fork Bridge in North Carolina to demonstrate the use of unducted epoxy coated strand (ECS). The FHWA has supported the development of ECS external continuity tendons as a corrosion-resistant, durable alternative to traditional grouted systems. This technology removes the need for plastic ducts and grout fillers, providing a direct, inspectable, and highly protected tendon for bridge construction and rehabilitation.

Overview of the new PTI/ASBI M-50 Technical Note on Unducted External Post-Tensioning with Epoxy Coated Strand

The use of un-ducted, external post-tensioning with epoxy-coated strand (ECS) presents enhancements to bridge durability, and maintenance. In addition, the tendons are accessible and can easily be inspected and replaced if necessary. This webinar will highlight this new M-50 technical note, which provides guidance on the design considerations, system qualifications, components, and installation processes necessary for successful implementation. Special technical provisions are included in Appendix A of the publication.
